knotologie
The images on the right are a model I made from strips of normal A4 paper. I used 1.5cm width strips tied in knots to create pentagons according to this pattern called Sphere 94 by Heinz Strobl.
It was remarkably simple to make and really enjoyable. It would make a good project for a whole class of able students to make. And I am convinced there is a lot of nice maths involved in this object, not least the fact that you can make a pentagon from tying a knot in a piece of paper! |
