curves of pursuit

I was flicking through the excellent book Mathematical Activities by Brian Bolt this morning and found an interesting idea about curves of pursuit.  So I decided to use the idea to make this christmas card using some coffee stirrers that were kindly donated by Starbucks.

It was really easy to make. I used PVA glue to stick them on to card.  The only thing to consider when making these with children is the safety issues when cutting the sticks; I used a scalpel but perhaps scissors would do the job?

I am going to make lots of these triangles with my students and put them together to see what that looks like. After that, we might experiment with different shapes.

And of course, you can experiment with different materials... If you like knitting, you might want to visit the website Woolly thoughts!
